Program: e-Reader Accessory for Amazon Kindle2

Business Sector: Consumer Products

Kindle Gel Case KindleGelCaseFeatures

Scope

Core Source Technologies developed a Gel Skin Case for the Amazon Kindle2; a stretch fit silicone skin-style case for a leading e-reader accessory provider. The case was to be a high-end case that set itself apart from other commercially available cases, while fitting within the client's product portfolio of other high-end, quality products that they offered.

Results

Core Source developed three concept models in the initial development phase from which the client selected the concept that best differentiated their product and provided the best quality to their customers. Core Source developed an innovative case that provided overall protection for the e-reader device and featured attached connector port covers, as well as a light-weight screen protector flap that folds out-of-the way and attaches to the back of the e-reader case when in use, and securely attaches to a molded snap feature on the front of the e-reader case when not in use. We added styling features to the back of the case, giving the case character and providing functional properties—it provides ergonomic finger grips and additional protection if the device is dropped on its back. The integrated customer branding was designed into the case by embedding the logo into styling features. Throughout the detail design we worked closely with the client’s tooling supplier to enhance mold-ability characteristics while maintaining the aesthetic and functional requirements.

This e-reader case was recently released and was well-received by the e-reader community. Click here to read one of the Kindle2 Gel Skin Case reviews. The e-reader case is also available at Amazon.com.

Program: Life Cycle Test Fixture

Business Sector: Medical

Test Fixture Graphic

Scope

Core Source developed a life cycle test fixture with multiple test options on a single medical device. Test attributes such as stroke, pressure and revolutions, and failure points could be monitored and controlled via software/laptop.

Core Source designed and built the first prototype unit. Once the test device was verified, it was launched into a low volume production program. Core Source handled the new product introduction (NPI) transition including all supply chain requirements, pilot validation, and documentation control.

Results

The life cycle test fixture was developed within an extremely aggressive schedule. Also, because of Core Source’s DFMA work, the test fixture has been manufactured in low volumes 8% below the estimated COGS plan.

Program: Modification of satellite receiver products

Business Sector: Consumer Products

Receiver Graphic

Scope

Core Source was contracted to develop circuitry and implement a common approach into a variety of existing satellite receiver products to simulate customer failures. A full turn-key solution was requested ranging from PCB design through product rework and verification testing. Due to aggressive schedule requirements Core Source identified and utilized a local CM to provide redundant product modification. Custom detailed rework procedures were developed by Core Source to ensure consistent and reliable products.

Results

Core Source has successfully delivered in excess of 70 modified receivers over 15 different model types to date and continues to implement similar solutions into additional products beyond the original requirement.
